September-October 2026: “After the Masters“
At one time or another, artists have copied the work of the Masters to develop their drawing skills, problem-solve, internalize specific techniques and gain insight into the creative process. The Gallery is seeking 2D and 3D art inspired by past and present-day visual Masters: Rubens, Leonardo Da Vinci, Degas, Matisse, Picasso, Warhol, Kahlo, O’Keeffe, David Hockney, Basquiat, to name only a few. Select one or more of your favorite artists and let them inspire you to create an imaginative transformation of a selected artwork using their colors, composition, mark-making and/or style. You may submit up to three images. For each, please include (1) your name and the title of the masterpiece that inspired you, (2) medium, dimensions, price, and (3) a brief paragraph that describes your intention and/or outcome. Gallery commission is 40%. Submissions are due by August 22, 2026. Please submit to cathryn@cathrynodonnellgallery.art
Here is an example. Inspired by the linework and expressive form of Egon Schiele’s women, I transformed his work into a colorful and whimsical portrayal of two women enjoying their walk along the beach with cotton candy in hand.
